Liquid Metal is one of the few heavy music radio stations available. It was launched two decades ago and is still run by Jose Mangin, who is also a host of the Octane station. In fact, Mangin is the longest-running rock host in SiriusXM history. He is also the director of programming for the Liquid Metal channel.
On Tuesdays at 6 p.m., Listener Domination gives Sirius XM subscribers the opportunity to select their favorite heavy metal songs. The playlist includes tracks from bands such as Metallica, P.O.D., and Warbringer.
Aside from listening to new releases, there are other ways to listen to metal on Sirius XM. You can hear a wide range of cover songs on the Corridor of Covers channel. Alternatively, you can listen to the Hard Files station, which provides weekly interviews with bands.
Metal has also been an outlet for marginalized groups, including LGBTQ+ women and people of color. But, these artists are underrepresented in the mainstream of American Heavy Metal. Several cis-white male-fronted bands dominate the genre. Their music often explores traditional Heavy Metal subjects while at the same time exploring politics, mental health, and the critical nature of society.
For example, Metallica"s 2008 album, "Hardwired," was ranked #1 on many year-end lists, including the Loud Rock charts and CMJ"s Top 20 list. Additionally, the album was the number two Brave Pick on the FMQB Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles charts. The song "Recharger" had more than 100,000 listens within 24 hours, making it the first-ever lead single for the band.
The music video for "Recharger" features a variety of guest vocals, including those from friends of Static-X. This is the band"s second album to be released from its reunited nucleus. The story of the album is rooted in contemporary events and forward-thinking science fiction.
One of the biggest criticisms of the Nu Metal scene is that it watered down the metal sound. However, this doesn"t necessarily mean that Nu Metal has become an invalidating force in the metal community. Instead, Nu Metal has clearly listened to metal. There are a number of Nu Metal musicians who are very heavily influenced by metal. They may be distorted, but their music is clearly heavy.
Another way to enjoy metal on Sirius XM is through its Heavy Metal Lifestyle Radio Station. It plays metal from the masters, but the station also highlights lesser-known acts. Typically, the channel plays older songs and does not play new releases.
These are just a few examples of the many heavy music channels available on Sirius XM. If you want to know more, you can visit Sirius XM"s website.
